Caring for an infant and accompanying someone at the end of life call for the same human qualities but distinct technical skills. That is why the programme branches after the core teaching.
The specialisation that answers Cameroon’s ageing population directly. It prepares students to work with older people at home and in geriatric wards, including situations of heavy dependency and end-of-life care.
Geriatric wards, residential facilities, and home support for dependent older people, all under supervision.
This specialisation offers the broadest medium-term employment prospects, particularly with diaspora families arranging care from abroad for a parent who stayed in Cameroon.
The association’s historic specialisation, inherited from its founder, a paediatric nurse. It prepares students to work with young children in nurseries, maternal and child health centres, maternity units and family homes.
Nurseries, maternal and child health centres, maternity units, supervised home childcare.
Many families are looking for someone able to care for a child and an older relative living under the same roof. Graduates of one pathway can add the other’s modules through continuing education.
Before any specialisation, every student acquires the foundations of the job. The core programme is organised into six domains, assessed continuously and in end-of-cycle examinations.
Basic anatomy and physiology, the stages of life, the ageing process, common conditions, concepts of disability and dependency.
Help with essential activities, moving and handling, positioning and comfort, prevention of immobility-related risks, emergency response.
Hand and laundry hygiene, upkeep of the living space, infection prevention, food safety, disposal of care waste.
Age-appropriate nutrition, spotting undernutrition and dehydration, adapting food textures, assistance at mealtimes.
Listening, communication adapted to cognitive and sensory impairment, working with families, handling difficult situations, professional confidentiality.
Rights of the person supported, respectful care, ethics and conduct, work organisation, written and oral handover, Cameroonian legal framework.
You need enough schooling to read, write and record observations, because written handover is part of the job. The most recent qualification is requested in the application, but the motivation interview counts just as much as the academic record.
The centre operates under accreditation from the Ministry of Employment and Vocational Training, and students sit the national vocational qualification examinations. The “social care worker” pathway appears in the examination records; work under way since 2024 aims to register our two specialisations within it. More on the national framework.
Initial training requires regular attendance, and placements are full-time. People already in work are directed to continuing education, whose short modules are designed to be taken alongside a job.
No. It is overwhelmingly carried out by women today — in France, 89 % of personal care service employees are women — but nothing in the work justifies that. Some situations, notably moving people with heavy dependency, benefit from mixed teams. Applications from men are encouraged.
Graduates join the association’s placement pool. It negotiates the contract with the employer, guarantees a pay floor, provides monthly supervision and offers a replacement in case of absence. Post-training follow-up is part of what the association commits to.
Yes. Short modules for family carers are in the continuing-education catalogue: moving someone without injuring yourself, preventing falls at home, feeding an older person, understanding cognitive impairment. See the family carers pathway.
